Current set of jobs

This project is coming along nicely so far. I am getting better at making some of these designs turn out the way I want them to with my CNC machine.

This one is a little tough to see because of the glare. The wood has a coating on it which I use to minimize any paint from getting into areas that will be stained later on.

This project is ready for stain which I will start to apply tomorrow. This one uses commercially made patterns which were chosen by the customer.

Shop is back up and running

Well, the hurricane did some pretty severe damage all around my area but we were lucky in the sense that we only had some basement flooding to deal with. I've been able to dry out completely and put my shop back in order but I have a backlog of emails to answer and cabinets which need to be started. I'm trying to answer a few emails per night along with trying to catch up with the work.

Please hang in there if you sent me an email. If you have a deadline before October 15th, you should be aware I might not be able to meet it. If you do have such a deadline, please call me @ 845-418-2760 and leave a message with your info so I can prioritize your email and call you back.

After Irene, this was a ball field in my hometown of Suffern. The water is about 9 feet deep!

Hurricane Irene Update

Due to the hurricane that came through the N.Y. area, my schedule has been affected. All my shop tables were used for storage of tools, wood and household items. As it turns out, we fared well compared to many surrounding neighborhoods. I only had 5" of water so no property damage but it will still take me most of this week to dry out the floor and walls and put things back in order.

I'm also trying to find out what help I can provide to friends that have lost property due to rising flood waters. This will affect my available time and I'll post more info but for now my communication via direct email will be slower than normal and new cabinet work will also be on hold temporarily.

USC cabinet and VRC-30

The USC cabinet features the Trojan head on the exterior and two additional college logos on the inside.

These two pictures were taken after the colonial maple stain was applied.

The VRC-30 Providers cabinet is going to a Navy Squadron.

*UPDATE* Thankfully, this wasn't nearly as bad as the last storm that rolled through. There was some flash flooding in my neighborhood and a little water did make it's way into the basement but nothing that required vacuuming to remove. SO, business as usual. * End of Update*

Well, I'm heading home and roads are flooded and closed everywhere. This is the radar for my area. I'm dead center of the red area. I have a feeling there will be more water seeping into the basement which means a day or two of drying out and dehumidifiers running round the clock. This will once again slow down the work on cabinets.

If you have been in touch with me about a dart cabinet rest assured I will get to it... But it may take another week or so for me to find the time to work on artwork or prep additional lumber.

I wish I could say I make my living with this business but it's not the case. My normal occupation is that of a Finish Carpenter. I'm back in a cycle of actually having some work so the dart business is back on a part-time basis.

Please keep checking back here for updates on the current batch of cabinets. If you don't see anything on your particular piece wait a couple of days before e-mailing me. I try to devote time every night to a cabinet and keep alternating that pattern so one piece doesn't sit unattended for too long

I ran one door through the cnc the other day and when I started the second door I realized I had made a mistake with one of the two inner engravings. I placed the same logo on both doors. Unfortunately, I didn't catch this in time and ruined a Maple door! DOH! So I've got another door gluing up in the shop now and I plan on running the right door again tomorrow. I'll post pictures once both doors are completed.

This cabinet has been particularly difficult to work on due to the humidity levels caused by all the rain. The Red mahogany stain doesn't dry as fast as the other colors due to the high amount of pigment in this stain. This always seems to be an issue with Minwax's Red Mahogany.

Today I finished up the routing and engraving work. There is obviously still some work needed to clean up the surface of the wood. The doors also need to be trimmed to their proper width to eliminate the artwork overlap.

Weather Related Slow-down

Once again, Mother Nature has spoken. Two days ago we got slammed with very heavy rains with about 3" in less than an hour. We got some water in the basement and my garage wood shop. Nothing was damaged but it has once again left me with a day of vacuuming up the water and another couple days of drying out the floors. The humidity level is higher than normal so finishing the cabinets with stain or poly takes twice as long.

This has been a tough year with all the rain and I wish I could stay on schedule. I'm trying my best to stay on top of orders but I can't rush the process so delays are inevitable due to the circumstances.

I will have some updates tomorrow and I have two cabinets that will ship out. The Greifeld and Brophy cabinets will ship out on Monday.

There has been a long gap between posts and I need to apologize for that! I can only attribute it to laziness on my part when it comes to updating my website. It doesn't mean I have been slacking off on cabinets though!

I have the cabinet down in the basement shop where it's about 75% done regarding the staining so there should be another update forthcoming this weekend. I promise! Well it sure has been a long time since I've updated my blog or website. It doesn't mean I haven't been making cabinets. There are at least half a dozen new cabinets I need to add to the gallery when I get time to update things.

The current project is about 60% complete and will be shipping out to a VFW hall. Check it out.

It features a carving placed in the center of the engraved details.

There is a matching score board frame that will ship out with the cabinet.

The Saloon Insert

I am delivering an insert this week which will be installed over the weekend at a local pub. This one is loaded with some new LED STRIPS which are very bright and will be offered on all projects in the future.

The doors came put of my CNC machine last night. The burns resulted from some deep cuts which turned out put a little stress on the machine. The burns will not be seen as the lettering will be painted black in the next step.

Large Insert for Dart League

One of the local bars that participates in our local dart league is utilizing an old display case for the new home of their dart board.

I've pulled down all the mirrors at this point and taken my measurements for the cabinet that I'm building which will fill this space.

There are going to be 3 LED light strips mounted inside of this unit on the sides and the top. A face frame will hide the lights from view and protect them from any "direct hits".

Custom Unfinished Pine

This cabinet is complete and will ship out this week. It has not been finished so the customer can have a custom picture painted onto the doors on his end. The cabinet does have LED lights installed. The two side strips are not visible in the pictures. The units are neatly routed into the wood and so is the wiring. The plug is located at the bottom of the cabinet.

This cabinet has moved down for finishing this week. The cabinet back has since been cut and felted but is not pictured. This cabinet is taking advantage of the optional BLUM® 170deg European hinges. They are really a nice upgrade for a dart cabinet.

I normally use an app on my phone to publish these updates. It's quick and incredibly convenient to do this with my phone because it can be done without coming to the computer and uploading pictures and using other software to make the update/editing.

I'm still not sure what is wrong but the app is not working for me at the moment so my updates have been pretty much non-existent. Today I loaded the pictures from my phone and I'm making several updates today. Future updates may remain spotty until I can get the app working again.

The Bateman cabinet is getting close to being ready for assembly. The doors should be finished today.

I am also prepping the door blanks and CNC programming for the Aquino cabinet. This piece will be a duplication of a cabinet the customer found on a website but was unable to have shipped into the U.S.

The stain and top coat are almost finished on the Guilloty cabinet. Tomorrow I'll assemble the cabinet and prep it for shipping.

The Dazzler's piece is also into the last stage of finishing with the top coating left to apply.

I also did a little more work on another lightbox that was waiting for the Xmas rush to come to an end.

OK, here we go! I won't have lots of time to do individual updates for all the cabinets in the shop so I will be posting an update once a week picturing what has been done for that week.

I've recently added a CNC machine to my shop so the level of accuracy I'm able to achieve has increased as you'll see from these pictures.

This cabinet is being built for a local friend. It's also the first one I've done which is based on a music personality. So far the pattern is attached to the door blanks which I glued up earlier today.
